Peter Ver Ploeg, DMD, Dental Program Director - is a recent graduate of the University of New England College of Dental Medicine, and Nasson’s newest Dentist. Originally from Nottingham, New Hampshire, received his Bachelor of Arts from the University of New Hampshire. Peter always had an interest in dentistry because of his father, also a dentist. Prior to coming to Nasson, he worked at the Jessie Albert Dental Clinic in Bath, Maine and the Portland Public School Dental Clinic, and provided public health outreach to students at the Riverton Elementary School in Portland, Peaks Island School and RiverRidge Center in Kennebunk. Peter enjoys working with patients of all ages and backgrounds, but thrives in settings where he is able to provide dental services to those who are most in need of them. As he explains, “There is something so gratifying about helping someone who walks into our office in pain, walk out with no pain.” Peter joins our skilled dental team and is taking new patients.
Michael Sloan, DDS, has been providing dental services for nearly 40 years. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from the North Carolina State University, and went on to graduate from UNC-Chapel Hill as a Doctor of Dental Surgery. Michael spent eight years as a Dental Associate in a mid-sized private practice in Gainesville, Florida, and then relocated to Maine, where he spent the next 27 years in practice at Lincolnville Family Dentistry. Following a brief hiatus for travel, Michael joined the dental team at Nasson Health Care, which he says is unlike any other practice in which he has worked. “Dental care should be available to everyone, yet it is unaffordable for a lot of people,” he explains. “Dentistry is an important part of total health, and I love that money is not a barrier here at Nasson.”
Ayla Nelson, DMA - Dentist started her career as a dental hygienist in Boston, and later earned her dental degree from the University of New England College of Dental Medicine (2019). Her decision to pursue dentistry draws back on her experience as a child with cancer; the treatment she received from her committed team of nurses, doctors and other clinical professionals inspired her to follow a career path in health care from a young age. Ayla’s desire to make a difference in people’s lives manifests in her practice of oral health care, through which she provides patient-centered care by listening to patients’ concerns and helping to address them. She joined Nasson Health Care because of its integrated model that promotes better patient outcomes through the coordination of care, and which fosters Ayla’s desire to develop meaningful, long-lasting relationships with both her patients and colleagues. Ayla spent her childhood vacationing in Wells, and is now launching her dental career here in Southern Maine because of her lifelong love of this community. In her spare time, Ayla enjoys reading, listening to classic rock, and taking advantage of Maine’s array of natural resources by downhill skiing during the winter, and fishing in the summer
